Effective Learning
Effective Learning Techniques: from revision to note-taking
When completing homework, long-term study or revision, there are a number of important considerations. Without a knowledge and understanding of the right resources and the right strategies, pupils can spend time focusing on the wrong aspects of learning or spending time studying or revising with little to no impact on the long term retention of knowledge.
Our aim at Cirencester Deer Park School is to ensure that we help our pupils utilise every ‘learning’ moment to its greatest effect and home learning, including homework, long-term study and revision is no exception to this. There are some clear strategies that work and there are some which, whilst reassuring to pupils, actually have very little impact on long term retention of the important knowledge or understanding.
To help our pupils and parents understand the most effective strategies and ensure that time is used effectively in independent study, particularly home learning, we have provided some video guides below on the critical strategies that we know from research and experience make a difference.
