School Transport
Pupils come to Deer Park from a wide area and as such travel to and from school in a variety of ways. Walking or cycling to school can be a great way to start the school day - children are said to be more alert and ready to learn after they have had a short burst of physical exercise, such as walking, before they enter the classroom. Pupils should use the Chesterton underpass to cross the dual carriageway and use the zebra crossing at the front of the College to cross the front drive.
Walking to School
Pedestrians 'failure to look properly' is the biggest contributory factor in accidents. There are a few key messages you can try to drum into your teen:
- Don't use your mobile to talk or text while crossing
- Give the road your full attention while you cross, even with a group of friends
- Look out for your friends' safety too
- Turn off your music while you cross the road
- Don't take any chances when you're cross - cars may not be able to stop in time
- Pedestrian crossings aren't just for young children, they keep everybody safe.
Cycling to School
Students who travel actively to school have been found to be better able to concentrate and for those pupils who cycle to Deer Park we have a large under-cover cycle storage area. Pupils should not ride their bikes on the school or college sites and should not access the school through the College site. Pupils are encouraged to lock their bicycles in the racks provided. We ask parents to ensure that bicycles are roadworthy. Pupils should show respect for other road users and ride safely.
Coming to School by Bus
A large number of buses carry pupils to and from school each day. Those who live in the catchment area but more than three miles away usually receive a free bus pass from the Local Authority. Pupils who are not eligible for free transport, and that includes most children who live outside the catchment area, pay the appropriate transport company. However, parents of children who live in Wiltshire must contact Wiltshire County Council regarding places on the bus service and not bus companies direct.
Check the Gloucestershire County Council site for bus timetables.

Buses come on site via the front entrance shared with Cirencester College.
Our School Standards extend to the buses and we expect a reasonable level of courtesy and consideration be shown to the drivers and other bus users. Pupils must remember to look after their bus passes and be prepared to show them for every journey. Pupils who behave in a manner that may disrupt the driver will have their right to use the bus withdrawn for a fixed period of time.
Complaints about buses can be made through the school, although in most cases it is the responsibility of the transport company itself and/or the transport department of the Local Authority School Services Department, Shire Hall, Gloucester, (01452 425493). Alternatively, Wiltshire-based parents need to contact Wiltshire County Council in Trowbridge, (01225 713000).
Gloucestershire County Council publishes a Code of Conduct regarding safety and behaviour on school buses. Unacceptable behaviour on school buses will not be tolerated and the Code of Conduct needs to be adhered to at all times. If passengers do not abide by the Code of Conduct, they can and will receive bus bans from GCC / the bus company. Please reinforce the importance of good behaviour with your children. Read the Code of Conduct...
Coming to School by Car
The parents’ car park and set down/pick up point is accessible via the rear entrance next to the playing fields, closer to the Royal Agricultural University. Cars should not use the front of school to pick up/set down. Please drive carefully on the school site and park with consideration for others.
