Cornish Artistic Adventure during Enrichment Week
On Monday 2 July 2018, a small group of pupils, along with Mrs Evans and Mr Hoare, travelled to our base for four days on the Lizard Peninsular, Cornwall. Having unpacked, we had tea and then went on a walk around Coverack and the shore line. Evenings during the week fell into a relaxed routine of opportunities to work on sketchbooks, participate in activities in the grounds of our accommodation and visit the beach.
On Tuesday we went to St Ives for a Sketch-and-Stroll workshop with the School of Painting and a visit to Tate St Ives and to the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden. We had a picnic lunch at the Tate and later in the afternoon were able to explore some of the shops and small galleries.
Wednesday we spent the day at The Eden Project, exploring the massive biomes, which hold the largest indoor rainforest, and gardens.
After a lovely morning on the beach at Coverack on Thursday, we travelled back to Gloucestershire.

Friday was another artistic day - in the Design Department at school - spent making art work, using photographs, items collected on the trip and using our sketchbooks produced in Cornwall to create a wonderful picture in the entrance to the Design Faculty.
Mrs Evans, Trip Leader and Head of Design, commented: "This is the third year we have run this trip. The weather was beautiful to start with but by Tuesday evening the sea mist had come in, bringing rain. This did not dampen the pupils’ spirits and creativity as they were keen to work on their sketch books. Tate St Ives was very interesting and engaging and the pupils were able to make links with the information from the Sketch-and-Stroll workshop they had attended earlier that day. Pupils worked with such enthusiasm on the Friday, saving memories for the future in their sketchbooks, and for me it was a very memorable trip."
