Open Events
Open 'out of hours' tours and virtual open evening
On Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 September 2020 we welcomed prospective pupils and their parents to our first of eight ‘out of hours’ tours. These events are designed to replace our usual open mornings and will be complemented by our virtual open evening on Tuesday 29 September 2020 at 6pm.
Parents and pupils are invited to attend our Virtual Open Evening in MS Teams, which will take place on Tuesday 29 September 2020. The event starts at 6pm.
You do not have to have downloaded the MS Teams App to access this event or sign in – you can simply opt to ‘watch on the web instead’ and ‘join anonymously’. For any parents unable to attend ‘live’, we hope to record the event and make it available.
We are looking forward to hosting this event and sharing our vision for all of our pupils.
'I wanted to say thank you so much for the effort you have gone to to set up tours during this difficult time. As a family we hugely appreciated this and were blown away by your school.' Year 6 Parent
'I just wanted to drop you a line to say a huge thank you for facilitating this opportunity for my daughters to look round Deer Park. They really got a feel for the school and what it has to offer and it has really helped us make decisions about the right school for them in these unusual circumstances! A big thanks to Cath Brace who was their tour guide. She was - to quote the girls - "awesome".' Year 6 Parent
We recognise the choice of a secondary school is an important one and we want to give families the opportunity to visit our school site albeit in a different way this year.
Our ‘out of hours’ tours must be booked in advance ( read more...) and parents of pupils in Year 6 have clearly appreciated the opportunity we have given them to have a look around our beautiful site.
'We just wanted to say thank you very much for a really useful tour. It was so hugely helpful to see the school for real, even if there were no pupils there. Mrs Lang was so helpful and simply knew everything - as I guess one would expect from a deputy head, but it meant that we came away with all our questions answered and more, whereas previous tours of schools by pupils, including Deer Park, have been great but obviously the pupils don't always know all the answers! So we know how busy you all are on a day-to-day basis with all the extra guidelines, etc, but we really do appreciate you having been able to organise these tours - it's certainly helped us.' Unfortunately, this year, owing to coronavirus and the preventative measures we have put in place, including good hand and respiratory hygiene, we do not feel we can invite prospective pupils and their parents to look around our school during the school day.
We currently have a staggered school day and our pupils are being taught predominantly within designated home bases. To ensure we can offer the breadth of our curriculum, pupils are able to move into specialist areas for lessons in PE, Design and Expressive Arts. Our pupils have adapted well to our new routines and are delighted to be back at school.
‘My daughter has really been enjoying her new school and making many friends in her tutor group as well. She is enjoying the teaching and classes. I have been impressed with how the school operates. Speaking to her friends’ parents when we see each other it appears Deer Park is doing things in a better way than other schools. I am pleased she is going to your school.’ Year 7 Parent
Cirencester Deer Park School is a resilient organisation and we are making our best endeavours in especially challenging circumstances. To ensure we can keep our staff well and our pupils safe so that they can continue to teach and learn in school, we have taken the decision to reduce the number of contacts they encounter. We are following the guidance for schools. Therefore, this year, our tours for no more than six people are led by members of the school’s leadership team and our Admissions’ secretary, Allison Boucher.
While we can all talk confidently about what we offer at Cirencester Deer Park School and can show you our excellent facilities, we appreciate that the absence of our pupils and empty corridors and classrooms won’t necessarily be able to convey the tremendous energy that exists within the school. We plan to capture this creatively and we look forward to sharing this excitement for learning with you in a new and different way. Please watch this space!
