Geography Really Matters

Whether near or far, Geography is important.

Each year the Geographical Association runs a WorldWise Week during the last week of June and the theme for 2020 was 'Geography really matters', so of course our Geography teachers really wanted Deer Park pupils to get involved!

Our pupils were encouraged to look for the Geography close to home, either from their window or while on a daily walk, and take part in 'Geography through the Window'. Over the course of the week, 47 pupils took up the challenge and sent in photos, pictures and videos to describe the Geography they could see in their local area.

Geography teacher Miss Bluett said: "I was really impressed with the range of different Geographical themes and processes which pupils were able to not only spot in their local area but also describe in such detail. The pupils' creativity in presenting their findings was also amazing and I have some tough decisions now to make about which pieces of work will be displayed in September."

You can read more about why 'Geography really matters' in our first Geography department newsletter. It includes news articles, quotes from our GCSE Geographers and a biography of someone who uses Geography daily in her workplace.
