Pupils have two PE lessons per week and have the opportunity, encouraged by our new Games Captains, to row or cycle at lunchtimes, to cover more miles and we hope that with the help of staff, who have been asked to take part both in school and in their own time, that we will make it to Rio by Friday afternoon! Which countries and capitals could you theoretically travel through on the way to Rio? What is the miles-km conversion rate?

Rio 2016 takes place 5-21 August and we look forward to seeing the world's top sportsmen and women in action. Will Usain Bolt wow us all again? How will Team GB fare away from home soil? Rio 2016 will be broadcast on the BBC. Did you know that the UK is 4 hours ahead of Rio de Janeiro? 

Congratulations to individual athletes Finn, Abi and Tom who represented Gloucestershire at the South West Schools Regional Track and Field Championships in Exeter on Saturday 18 June. Tom (Year 11) finished 4th in the Inter Boys 800m, Finn (new Year 10) was 2nd in the Junior Boys Shot with a PB of 12.06m in the 4kg Shot, and Abi (new Year 11) finished 1st Inter Girls 100m and 5th in the 80m Hurdles final. Well done. You inspire us all! 

70 of our track and field athletes were due to compete in the District School Athletics at the Prince of Wales Stadium in Cheltenham on Monday 20 June. Unfortunately the event was postponed due to rain but has now been rescheduled for Tuesday 12 July.

This week we published a report on our annual Pupils v Staff Charity Cricket Match which this year took place at Cirencester Cricket Club  on Tuesday 14 June.

Pupils travelling to Paris for Enrichment Week (4-8 July) are looking forward to soaking up some of the Euro 2016 atmosphere in the French capital before the Final takes place at the Stade de France on Sunday 10 July. We currently have a poll on iDeer for staff and pupils to cast their votes on who they think will win the competition – the voting deadline is this Thursday 23 June, after the group stages. Other specifically sporting activities in Enrichment Week include a Year 8/9 Football Coaching week and a Year 9 week of Watersports at South Cerney. The Year 7 (new Year 8) Aim for the Stars programme includes various sporting activities, as does the Year 8/9 Massive option.

Andy Murray won a record 5^th Queens Club title last weekend, which sets him up nicely for Wimbledon which starts on Monday 27 June. Every summer we hold a Deer Park Tennis Competition with four categories: Junior Boys, Junior Girls, Senior Boys and Senior Girls. Each category is extremely competitive, with pupils organising and playing all their matches in their own break and lunch times. It is a knockout competition and each competitor plays a one set match to go through to the next round. We are at the semi-finals stage and hope that the finals will be played next week.

Deer Park Sports Day takes place on Wednesday 13 July. We will be watching and celebrating individual and team achievements and look forward to experiencing the amazing team spirit that this day brings. 

The Deer Park PE Faculty is passionate about engaging all pupils in Physical Education. We offer a range of sports, including hockey, netball, racket sports, net games, trampolining, dance and gymnastics, as well as offering additional activities both within lessons and as enrichment activities, such as watersports, university visits, football weeks, equestrian and archery competitions and so much more. The variety and opportunities within PE are vast and our pupils greatly appreciate the opportunities given to them and they are highly competitive and successful within the district.
