Athletics Success

Both our Year 7 and Year 8 Boys Athletics teams are District Champions!

District Athletics

At the District Athletics on Wednesday 5 June 2019, hosted by Thomas Keble School, our young athletes did themselves, and the school, proud!

Nearly 40 pupils were in our  Year 7 Boys, Year 7 Girls, Year 8 Boys and Year 8 Girls athletics teams. Pupils competed in Track - 100m, 200m, 300m, 800m, 1500m and Relay - and Field - Shot Put, Discus, Javelin, Long Jump, Triple Jump and High Jump - events. The pupils were selected based on their performance either in PE lessons, training sessions or trials.

Year 7 pupils started with Track events and then swapped to Field. The Year 8 teams did the opposite. The meet finished with Relays for both Year 7 and Year 8 pupils. A number of wins by individuals combined with the relay team wins meant that the Deer Park Year 7 Boys and Year 8 Boys teams both finished 1st and are thus District Champions! Our girls' teams also did really well with our Year 7 Girls finishing 2nd (just 1 point behind the winners) and Year 8 Girls finishing 6th. What an event!

Mr Cumming, PE Teacher, said “This was an outstanding afternoon for Cirencester Deer Park School. Our pupils demonstrated superb athletic ability combined with strong resilience and I am really pleased for them. They showed superb behaviour and a responsible attitude throughout the event.”

Sports Day

The annual Deer Park Sports Day takes place on Wednesday 10 July 2019. There will be more information shared with pupils closer to the date but they should come to school in PE kit that day, with books and equipments for their first two lessons. We recommend that all pupils bring a bottle (preferably reusable) of water. Pupils should make decisions regarding sun cream, hat, jumper, waterproof jacket etc depending on the weather forecast.
