Brilliant Club School of Scholars Programme 2019
Ten Year 9 pupils were proud to receive graduation certificates at the University of Bath on Wednesday 8 May, an exceptional achievement. Their journey began with a launch trip to the University of Bristol in January, where our pupils were introduced to their University tutor and given a taste of what life was like studying at a city University.
This was followed by an intensive 10 week programme of study on forensic science, attending tutorials led by an experienced PHD tutor from the University. Each pupil produced a 2,000 word essay on this specialist subject, facing the challenges of writing to deadlines and at a standard expected at degree level. This really gave them a taste of what it is like to study at University. It has inspired many of them to aspire to going to University and was a chance for them to directly experience what life is like in higher education.
Their tutor Sam commented that "The writing in assignments is of a very high quality and maturity and students have the potential to achieve a great deal." He was surprised at the quality, original thinking and detail of their work for their age.
Mrs Millar, Science Teacher and Project Coordinator, said that she was very proud of their commitment, resilience and maturity throughout the programme.
"I am capable of more than I thought if I try hard enough." Willow
"It put my knowledge and writing skills to the test." Kadie
"I enjoyed visiting the Universities and getting a taste of what life could be like for me in the future." Hugh
