High Achievers' Seminar

On Tuesday 10 July 2018, we welcomed over 130 (new) Year 11 pupils and parents to our summer High Achievers' Seminar.

Pupils and parents were encouraged through a presentation from Mr Johnson, Assistant Head, to think strategically about revision and preparation for exams over the whole of Year 11. Miss Brace, Assistant Head, delivered  an entertaining session on strategies for revision and some research based theory about 'spaced learning'.

James Martin, one of the High Achievers Coordinator from Cirencester College, delivered a session on University applications and some of the questions that pupils and parents should be asking when they tour post 16 providers as prospective students.

The evening was valued by both pupils and parents. One parent commented "I would like to pass on our thanks for last night's very informative seminar. It was especially useful to have the suggested blocks of revision table for the year and to learn from the college.“

Mr Johnson, Assistant Head, who hosted the evening, said “This important event in the Deer Park calendar supports our pupils who are working at, or have the ambition to gain, the top GCSE grades. The evening was designed to contextualise the journey we would like to support our high achievers with as they advance through Year 11.”

The evening was topped off with a brief session on supporting health and wellbeing during the exam periods.
