Year 8 Rugby
The Deer Park Year 8 Rugby team have had an excellent season so far.
This young team of Year 8 boys successfully qualified from the Cotswold District Tournament on Thursday 5 October after winning 3 out of their 4 games in the tournament. Their 3 victories came against Farmor's School in their first game 20-0, Thomas Keble School in the second game 30-5 and Sir William Romney's School 10-0. The boys demonstrated excellent attacking skills with creativity and pace. Tyler, Sean and Jack scored memorable tries. They boy also showed real determination in defence and excellent tackling techniques. Team captain Jack said after the tournament “it was really good because we have learnt a lot as a team and played some good rugby so far!”
Previous success allowed the team to qualify for the District Rugby Final at Dursley Rugby Club on Thursday 12 October where we competed in the Cup tournament, with the top 4 teams in the District competing. The first game we lost to Marling 25-0, unfortunately not playing to our full potential, but we made amends in the second game by winning 15-10 against a strong KLB School with tries coming from MG, Hugo and Tyler. The boys demonstrated real character after the disappointment of the first game and played some excellent rugby, particularly in creating attacking opportunities. In our final game the boys lost a very close encounter to Kingshill 15-10, with our 2 tries coming from MG, who demonstrated real power and determination to run past many members of the opposing team to score his tries. In summing up Hugo said “it was really good to be involved with the rugby tournaments for the first time and it was great to score a try!”
Congratulations to all the boys involved, including MG, Ben G, Jake S, Wolfie C, Louis L, Jack O-H, Sean H, Nicky A, Rouri, Salba W-S Adam W, Hugo O, Tyler J, James T, Sam G, Sam H, Oliver P, Taylor M and Oliver J.
Our next match is on Thursday 2 November at home to Farmors.
