Induction Days
Welcoming our new Year 7 pupils to their two Induction Days.
On Thursday 13 and Friday 14 July we were delighted to welcome our new Year 7 intake to spend two days with us as part of their induction to Cirencester Deer Park School. A rainbow of different coloured uniforms greeted us in the Main Hall as we welcomed nearly 180 pupils from 46 different primary schools.
The children were able to meet their tutors for the first time and they spent time getting to know their fellow tutees. Pupils followed their actual timetable for the two days and quickly settled into lessons, taking part in Science experiments, Design, Drama and PE lessons, to name but a few, as well as designing tessellated fish in Maths! A delicious lunch was served to all pupils, to give them a taster of what is to come.
Pupils and their parents joined us at Thursday's Year 6 Induction Evening to meet staff, tutors and other families. The hall was packed, with families greeting old friends, making new friends and sharing their experiences, as well as finding out about Friends of Deer Park and uniform. The evening was rounded off with a fabulous video showing the exploits of all pupils on their first day with us. A fabulous end to a fabulous first day.
"Today has been one word – amazing! There is so much freedom in being here, from lessons to lunchtime I have loved every bit of it. When I walked in this morning I was nervous but excited, every face I saw was welcoming. Two older pupils helped us when we were lost and Miss Faux, my tutor, was really kind. I really loved my Science lesson it was so amazing. I can’t wait to come here and start a new chapter of my life." Tamsin
"I had Drama with Miss Mucahy and Miss Faux, we learnt the dance and song to the opening to Legally Blonde. I absolutely loved learning the song because I like dance and performing. I also had Global Citizenship with Miss Rubringer and we thought about what we would take if there was a flood. I have absolutely loved my first day - it has been everything I expected. I can’t wait to come back in September." Joe
During Day 2 pupils were becoming more confident, both in lessons and during free time, as they met more of their teachers, learned more about each other and increasingly became better able to find their way around the school, often in groups! However, as we know, it takes time to settle into new situations and staff are always available to answer questions when our new year group join us in September.
Each pupil was given a booklet containing all sorts of useful information and they have been asked to fill in the pages over the summer holiday and create something for their tutors that will help each tutor understand each pupil better. We also recommend that pupils try to read for at least 20 minutes each day - this could be a book, a newspaper, a magazine or whatever they find of interest.
We are looking forward to seeing our Year 7s back at Deer Park on Tuesday 4 September and we wish them a restful and fun-filled summer.
