Dancing at Wembley
Fifty pupils from Cirencester Deer Park School had a fantastic experience at the start of the Easter holidays, performing with X Factor winner Louisa Johnson at Wembley!
1,300 pupils from schools across the country took part in this Pro Excel mass dance project with the pop star at the launch of the Saracens v Harlequins Derby Day on Saturday 8 April 2017. Our Key Stage 3 pupils travelled early to Wembley Stadium, accompanied by two former pupils who returned to support the team as Dance Captains, allowing plenty of time to find our way to our seats, take in the scale of this famous venue, rehearse pitchside before the crowds arrived, and be part of the atmospheric build up to the match.

The pupils danced as an accompaniment to Louisa Johnson prior to the start of the match, which had a crowd of 72,324 spectators, and which Saracens won 40-19. On a beautifully sunny day our pupils wowed the onlooking masses with routines they had been rehearsing since February.
Dance Captain, ex-pupil and Saracens fan Alex Ololade said "It was a brilliant day! The atmosphere in the stadium was incredible while we performed with Louisa, the crowd definitely enjoyed seeing us perform. It was a great experience - once in a lifetime for many people - to dance on the Wembley pitch and I loved every second of the match day."
Pupils danced to Louisa’s hit records ‘So Good, Tears’ and a cover of Justin Beiber’s ‘Love Yourself’.

Every Deer Park pupil who performed at Wembley did us proud. They have worked so hard leading up to this performance and it really paid off. I am a real supporter of how dance can enrich our pupils’ lives and educational experience. This opportunity allowed pupils to gain confidence, make new friends, display discipline and show resilience. They were absolutely brilliant. The project has encouraged many pupils to participate in extra-curricular dance for the first time, which is fantastic.

Pupils will be performing two of their routines from Wembley at the next Expressive Arts event: our MaDD Evening on Thursday 4 May at 7pm. Tickets are on sale from Reception - £3.50 adults, U16 £3 - or will be available on the door on the night.
