Charities Fundraising

On Red Nose Day, Friday 24 March, the front of Cirencester Deer Park School was draped with a huge Red Nose Day banner… before it blew free and returned to the roof!

Each term we support 3 charities - through fundraising and donation of Vivos - and on Friday we were raising funds for Red Nose Day (Comic Relief), Cancer Research UK and Afghan Connection through our Non Uniform Day, break-time stalls and the ever popular Staff in the Stocks.

Our thanks Mr Schlaefli, Mrs Hannis, Miss Rubringer and Miss Brace for agreeing to face the crowds during Key Stage 3 lunchtime!

Earlier in the week, Mrs Wood in Maths had the enviable task of judging, and tasting (!), entries to our pupil Deer Park Bake Off for Comic Relief, helped by Headteacher Ms Henson and Deputy Head Mr Johnson. There was a great variety of cakes including piñatas cakes, three tier cakes, red velvet cakes, biscuits, cake pops and a cake in the shape of a globe. Entries were judged by visual pleasure and by taste. A delight for the senses! Cakes were cut up and sold by Year 7 and Year 8 helpers at break over two days – sharing the pleasure among the school community.

I am always impressed by the creative ways in which our pupils respond to the call for help and this term's non-uniform day was no exception. Our pupils show real community spirit and compassion. They embrace the opportunities our staff present and they develop important life skills along the way. They come up with good ideas, manage stalls and run competitions. On behalf of those they assist through their fundraising endeavours I would like to say a big thank you.

Chiquita Henson, Headteacher

We raised over £1,140 on Friday, to be split between the 3 charities, and our Bake Off raised an additional £175 for Comic Relief. Thank you everyone.

Keep an eye on our Charities page to see who and what we will be supporting next term.

As you are probably aware, the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) has launched an East Africa Crisis Appeal to help people in South Sudan, Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia. They have also launched the Yemen Crisis Appeal. You can find out more about helping people in these devastated countries and donate on www.dec.org.uk
