During week commencing 13 May 2024, our Ethics and Computing Faculty hosted engaging assemblies for pupils in Year 7 to Year 10 centred on the fascinating world of robotics. The presentation delved into the advancements in technology that have revolutionised the field, showcasing the rapid progress from early mechanical devices to sophisticated autonomous systems, as well as highlighting key milestones in the development timeline and emphasising pivotal moments that have shaped the industry.

The assembly also explored the integral role of robotics across various industries, illustrating how these technologies are becoming indispensable in fields such as manufacturing, healthcare, agriculture, and logistics. Real-world examples demonstrated how robots enhance efficiency, precision, and safety, transforming traditional processes and enabling innovations that were once thought impossible. By linking robotics to different sectors, the presentation underscored the pervasive impact of these technologies and their capacity to drive significant improvements in productivity and quality of life.

A key focus was on the numerous advantages and rationales for adopting robotics. These benefits include increased operational efficiency, reduced human error, and the ability to perform tasks in hazardous environments, thereby protecting human workers. Additionally, the assembly highlighted how robotics can address labour shortages and perform repetitive or physically demanding tasks, allowing human workers to focus on more complex and creative activities. We concluded by emphasising the profound implications these technological advancements will have on the market force. As robotics continue to evolve and become more integrated into various aspects of life, there will be a growing need for us all to upskill and adapt to these changes. This is where students and younger individuals will play a crucial role. With their innate familiarity with technology and innovative thinking, pupils are poised to lead the way in this transformative era.
