Young Singers 2024
Young Singers of the Year 2024
Our annual Young Singer of the Year evening on Thursday 2 May 2024 showcased yet again the incredible talent we find at Cirencester Deer Park School. The standard across the board this year was extremely high, and we had our highest number of auditions too, with 22 reaching the final.
We had ten debut Young Singer performances across all years, including Jess, Charlotte and Izzy in Year 11, whose confidence has risen enormously since taking part in High School Musical earlier this year. We also had some exciting new talent on display from Year 7, including both Key Stage 3 runners up.
There was a range of styles performed on the evening, from an Evanescence song sung beautifully by Esme in Year 11, to many musical theatre numbers, including Naughty from Matilda by Harriet (Year 7). Zac in Year 9 also entertained us all with his rock and roll performance of Johnny B Goode.
Key Stage 3 Young Singer of the Year
Winner: Flo (Year 9) for her performance of Adele’s Easy on Me.
Runners up: Tom and Annabelle (both Year 7).
Flo: 'I was so nervous waiting to perform and was so surprised to have won because everyone there was incredible.'
Key Stage 4 Young Singer of the Year
Winner: Lizzi (Year 11) with her performance of I Dreamed a Dream from Les Misérables
Runners up: Sasha (Year 11), Bella (Year 11) and Isabelle (Year 10).
Lizzi: 'It was such a great night, everyone was absolutely amazing and I’m so excited to have won!'
We welcomed Headteacher Mr Clutterbuck and former pupils Isabelle Chandanam and Martha Danks as judges. Both Martha and Isabelle took part in every Young Singer whilst they were at Deer Park and were committed members of Expressive Arts during their five years with us. The Key Stage 4 category was particularly difficult for judges to decide, due to the high calibre of performances.
I would finally like to highlight Sasha and Lizzi in Year 11 as they have been committed to every Young Singer since Year 7, when they sent in a video performance for our virtual event in 2020; we are incredibly proud of how far they have come since Year 7.
Standing up there, in the spotlight, in the intimate performance space, is incredibly nerve-wracking and something most people would never do. I am so proud of each singer for putting themselves forward, fighting their nerves and showing off their singing and performance skills. Well done to you all!
