Readathons 2024
Sponsored to read, raising money for charity
On Thursday 7 March (World Book Day) and Friday 8 March 2024 we held Readathons for pupils in Years 7-10. These sponsored reading events are now a regular part of our school calendar with pupils raising money for Read for Good, a Nailsworth-based charity that provides books and stories for children in hospitals nationwide.
Participants are off timetable and based in our spacious library - they find somewhere comfortable, whether on the beanbags, around a table, on low chairs or under a desk (!), and simply... READ! Pupils are supported throughout by our Librarians, who also provide hot chocolate and biscuits, which is always very welcome! We enjoy seeing the range of books being read.
Mr Clutterbuck, Headteacher, commented: "On both days I popped in to the PLC to check our readers' progress. The atmosphere was very calm and purposeful - you could almost see the words and paragraphs floating above our pupils' heads. The Readathon is a firm staple of our reading diet and an important opportunity for pupils to indulge in reading for pleasure, whilst raising money for a good cause."
We are an outstanding Readathon School for the area, raising money each year for this worthy charity. We are very grateful to all the pupils who took part this year, and to their sponsors. So far, we have raised over £1,470 and 30 pupils are still collecting their sponsorship money.
