Enrichment Week 2023: Off timetable and on site
During Enrichment Week 2023 (Monday 3 to Friday 7 July) a group of just over 70 pupils in (new) Year 9 and (new) Year 10 remained on the school site and took part in a range of sports, creative and problem-solving activities. Each day, there was a mix of the three activity types with the groups, for example, making masks, building bridges or constructing the tallest freestanding tower, as well as sports activities such as basketball, football, cricket and trying out golf, ultimate frisbee, kickball and learning circus skills.
The week enabled our pupils to improve their teamwork, work with others outside their regular peer groups and offered a little bit of friendly competition. The weather improved through the week and there were certainly some smiling faces and tired bodies towards the end of the week!
The highlights were the hotly contested Football and Basketball tournaments, some fantastic masks and a freestanding tower of 3.77m built out of just newspaper and Sellotape!
Austin said ‘I loved all of it!’ and Sophie commented ‘I enjoyed choosing my groups and the rounders, golf and frisbee games’
Mr Ellen, who led the week, added: ‘The staff involved were brilliant, everyone worked hard to make things work for our pupils and encouraged and supported them throughout. It was lovely to see staff coming together and showing their creativity and teamwork.’
