Year 11 GCSE History pupils in London
On Tuesday 1 November 2022 thirty Year 11 GCSE History pupils were accompanied to London by Mr Ferne, Miss Brace and Mr Wotherspoon for a day of museums!
Pupils began by visiting the Imperial War Museum, where they had the opportunity to work with Holocaust experts. Following a brief introductory session providing vital context, pupils had the opportunity to self-guide their way through The Holocaust Galleries. Using a tablet, pupils could investigate artefacts and personal testimonies, deepening their understanding of the Holocaust. The powerful exhibit covers antisemitism and the persecution of Europe's Jews by the Nazis. A debrief followed, where the pupils asked and answered pertinent questions to enhance their understanding. Our expert guide commented on the maturity of our pupils and stated that they were one of the best groups she had ever worked with.
Lunch followed and a brief journey across London to the Science Museum. Here the pupils had the opportunity to explore the museum with the 'Medicine: The Wellcome Galleries' and the 'Exploring Space' gallery being amongst the highlights. Both galleries focused specifically on vital elements of the pupils' GCSE studies and the visit will be key in ensuring pupils are well prepared for their upcoming mock exams.
The return journey to Cirencester rounded off a busy day. Throughout the day, pupils displayed excellent levels of maturity and a true passion for History. We look forward to our visit next year with the current Year 10s.
