VACANCIES FOR THE LOCAL GOVERNING BODY
INFORMAL VIRTUAL OPEN MEETING MONDAY 5 JULY 2021

We are looking to recruit new parent members (previously known as Governors) to join the Local Governing Body of the school. This is an exciting opportunity for you to join the Local Governing Body and, together with the Head, play an important role in defining the direction of the school.

Our members of our Local Governing Body come from a range of different backgrounds, skills and experience but are all volunteers who share a common interest of wanting the best possible education for the children in our school.

We would be delighted to hear from anyone who:

  • Is interested in children’s education and the performance of the school;
  • Is able to work well as part of a team;
  • Has an enquiring mind and the confidence to ask questions and debate issues that affect the school;
  • Can consider matters objectively and make informed judgements.
  • Has spare time and the energy for the role; our Local Governing Body meets a minimum of 6 times a year, generally from 6-8pm and members of this group are expected to support events and may be asked to sit on various panels.
  • Is enthusiastic and has a willingness to learn.

What does a Local Governing Body do?  Since the establishment of the Corinium Education Trust on 1 April 2018, the Board of Trustees now delegate functions of school governance to the individual Local Governing Bodies of each school within the Trust.  Local Governing Bodies have the following main functions:

  • Help shape the strategic ambitions for the school;
  • Report to the Trust Board on the overall performance and educational outcomes of the school;
  • In conjunction with the CEO of the Corinium Education Trust and Headteacher of the school, they determine the annual spend of that part of the Trust budget which is delegated to be managed by the school;
  • Monitor all aspects of safeguarding, SEN, equality and student welfare.

What can we offer?

  • The opportunity to work with our team of governors and staff to continually improve our School
  • A sense of achievement in making a difference to our School and to the success of our children
  • A chance to work with other school governors across the Trust, to develop strategic management skills and an insight into the wider perspective of education
  • Support and further training to help build on existing skills or to develop new ones.

Governors do not need to be experts in education; everyone has something to offer and we would welcome applications from people from as many backgrounds and with as wide a range of skills and interests as possible.

Cirencester Deer Park School is committed to safer recruitment and safeguarding our pupils and all members of the Local Governing Body are subject to an enhanced clearance by the Disclosure and Barring Service.

If you would like to find out more about becoming a member of our Local Governing Body, and the application process, we invite you to attend an informal virtual open meeting at 6.00pm on Monday 5 July 2021 with the Head and Chair of our Local Governing Body.  This meeting will be held remotely via MS Teams. Please confirm your interest and attendance at this virtual meeting to Allison Boucher, Head’s PA, on enquiries@deerparkschool.net by Thursday 1 July 2021.

Thank you.

Kathy Jackson
Clerk to the Local Governing Body
