Captain Tom 100 Challenge
Challenging yourself
One of our School Standards is to challenge our pupils to achieve more than they first think is possible and this Bank Holiday Weekend (Friday 30 April to Monday 3 May 2021) we are challenging our young people to take part in The Captain Tom 100 Challenge.
So whether your children want to fundraise or donate to a charity of their choice, please do support them in their efforts this weekend to take on a challenge based on the number 100. Perhaps if you have a cause close to your own hearts, you could do this as a family challenge? If you are sharing your challenge on social media, use the hashtag #CaptainTom100.
Example 100 ideas: do 100 cartwheels, plant 100 seeds, start 100 random acts of kindness, gather 100 coins, read 100 pages, knit 100 stitches, eat 100 jelly beans... the list is endless!
If you were dropping children off in the back car park on Friday morning, you may have seen a mass of Year 7 pupils heading towards or marching around the sports field. Led by Deputy Head Mr Clutterbuck, and singing an adapted version of The Proclaimers '500 Miles', the year group had a very different tutor time as they all walked around the athletics track twice in their tutor groups, collectively walking 100 miles as part of the Captain Tom 100 Challenge. A great example of what we can achieve as a collective.
Mr Clutterbuck: “We only had 15 minutes to make sure everybody completed two laps of the athletics track before lessons started. Over 200 of us managed to walk the laps before rushing off to our classes. Year 7 were brilliant, cheering each other on, and singing an amended version of The Proclaimers’ I’m Gonna Be (500* miles) on the final lap. *100 miles”
