- Olympic Gold
It has been a joy to welcome our pupils back to school after the summer break and to reflect with them on Team GB’s success in Rio, the impressive achievements of our ‘Class of 2016’ and their own hopes and aspirations. We hope many will take inspiration from our former pupil Peter Reed’s achievement of a third Olympic gold medal in his third Olympic Games. We admire his resilience, sportsmanship and team work and send him our congratulations.

These simple school standards, created by pupils for the community of the school, underpin our ethos, promote positive relationships and reflect our pupils’ open mindsets.
- Golden Rewards
In our ‘Class of 2016’, 27% of all grades awarded were at A*-A: 51 pupils attained 5 or more A*-A grades and of these 15 secured 10 or more. All candidates were deserving of these rich rewards and they are a testimony to their commitment, curiosity and resilience and the quality of teaching here at Deer Park. As a new generation of learners start their journey at Deer Park, Mrs Lang, Deputy Head, will be taking a group of our new Year 7 pupils on a special residential weekend in October. This will focus on developing independent learning skills by inspiring and challenging their thinking. Similarly, later this term potentially high achieving pupils in Year 9 will have the opportunity to join ‘The Brilliant Club’ and work on research tasks related to Science, Engineering and Maths, alongside postgraduates in some of the UK’s top universities.
- Golden Anniversary
We are looking forward to celebrating our golden anniversary, 50 years of comprehensive education in Cirencester, on Wednesday 12 October 2016. Following the launch and circulation of the invitations, we are delighted former headteachers David Crossley (1991-97) and Sir David Carter (1997-2013) are able to join us. We have been pleased to receive so much interest and we are looking forward to welcoming former pupils, parents, staff and governors back to the school in the evening after what promises to be an interesting day as our current pupils will get to sample teaching and learning across the five decades!
- Golden Retrievers
Also joining the school this term is Cosmo, Assistant Head Mr Johnson’s 12 week old golden retriever who will be trained to listen to pupils read and fulfil other important roles within our pastoral team. Cosmo, already has a strong connection with the school - he was bred by Mr Martin, retired Design teacher, and is Denzil’s nephew! During his orientation days, it has quickly become apparent that he has inherited many of Denzil’s laid back characteristics!
