Year 8 Virtual Learning Conference

Year 8 Virtual Learning Conference

On Thursday 12 November 2020 we hosted our Year 8 Learning Conference virtually through Microsoft Teams. Our thanks to all the families who attended.

Headteacher Chiquita Henson introduced the evening, giving her thanks to the way Year 8 have responded to these uncertain times in school, and the evening was hosted by Assistant Head Miss Charlesworth. Topics covered included the benefits of studying languages from Mrs Miller, Head of Languages, together with the transferable skills developed through the Expressive Arts, from Mrs Gleed, Head of Expressive Arts.

The content was well received by the parents, exemplified by one family's email: 'We just wanted to say a big thank you to you and your staff for a very helpful Year 8 Learning Conference this evening. We also appreciate everything the school is doing for our children in these unprecedented times to make sure their education continues.'

Miss Charlesworth, Assistant Head commented ‘We were very happy to be able to hold a virtual learning conference for Year 8 focusing on being effective learners and how parents can support their children in their learning. The evening was attended by many of our Year 8 parents and pupils and we have been pleased to receive many positive comments from those who attended the evening. We are hopeful that Year 8 pupils will be able to put the strategies discussed at the evening into practise.’

If you have any questions about your child's learning and progress, please contact your child's tutor in the first instance.

At Deer Park our interactive Learning Conferences for pupils and their parents in each year group are designed to inform about our curriculum and provide support. Understanding the key learning skills of Reciprocity, Resourcefulness, Reflectivity and Resilience (The 4 Rs) is of vital importance to unlock our pupils' potential and we hope that by being given these tools, the young people at Deer Park will excel and achieve successful outcomes. We are undeterred by the pandemic and are finding new and creative ways in which we can engage with members of our wider school community and share key information.
