Link to Hope 2019
Helping families and the elderly in Eastern Europe
This term our Year 11 GCSE Citizenship Studies pupils are following their Citizenship in Action module and are collecting and coordinating items for the Link to Hope Shoebox Appeal 2019. As a school, we have supported Link to Hope for a number of years with their shoebox appeals for families and the elderly in Eastern Europe.
We encourage all our pupils to be active citizens, whether by volunteering their time, raising money and awareness for a cause, donating items or taking part in another form of community action. We hope that parents/guardians are equally able to engage in this act of human kindness.
Link to Hope are asking for each shoebox, whether for Family or Elderly, to have at least six core items in it - something warm, sweets, flannel & soap, candles, toothbrush & toothpaste and small games. If you see small affordable items you think may be suitable for the Family and Elderly Shoeboxes, we would really appreciate your help, if possible, in collecting for people living in Ukraine, Bulgaria, Moldova and Romania. Shoebox bargains can be found in discount/pound shops, supermarkets and online.
Please send individual or multiple items in to school with your child for tutor time. If you are sending in a full box, please do not seal the box. Pupils may wish to gather items in friendship groups or as a tutor group.
Items should be taken direct to to Miss Hope, Head of Ethics and Computing.
The deadline for items in to school is Friday 25 October 2019, i.e. before half term.
If you cannot easily collect individual items, sending in empty shoeboxes (size UK 7-9), rolls of Christmas paper or a donation towards the £3 needed to send each box, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
