Year 5 and Year 6 Indoor Athletics

One of our Young Sports Leaders, Ethan in Year 9, writes: On Monday 3 December 2018, Cirencester Deer Park School opened the Sports Hall to pupils in Year 5 and Year 6 from six local primary schools. Our Indoor Athletics event was buzzing from start to finish and it was a great place to be.

In parallel to this event, the Year 10 Ghana 2019 Volunteer team were holding a fundraising Festive Fiesta in the Atrium with activities throughout the evening.

Chesterton, Powell’s, Stratton, Kemble, Sapperton and Siddington Primary Schools participated in a number of activities:

  • Speed Bounce - how many times can you jump over an object in a certain amount of time?
  • Chest Push - how far can you throw a ball using the chest push method?
  • Triple Jump - see how far you go in a hop, skip and a jump;
  • Standing Long Jump - from a standing position, use all of your momentum to see how far you can jump;
  • Javelin - how far can you throw a polyester javelin?
  • Obstacle Relay - this relay consisted of ladders, hurdles and a speed bounce;
  • Vertical Jump - see how far you can jump vertically;
  • Normal Relay - straight sprinting, number of laps varies;
  • Relay Under Over - a relay with hurdles and tunnels.

This amazing Indoor Athletics event was headed up by PE teacher and Primary Sports Co-ordinator, Mr Cumming, who did a wonderful job organising the event with his reliable band of Year 9 Young Sports Leaders, plus some of our Year 10 Games Captains. As usual, the Young Leaders had their own roles to play to ensure that the evening went smoothly. It was a pleasure to be part of something this great and the atmosphere inside the Sports Hall was amazing.

“This was a superb and highly competitive event. It was great to see smiling faces from every pupil enjoying athletics.” Mr Cumming

"It's amazing to see just how committed the younger generation is; it is fantastic." Hugo, Year 9 Young Sports Leader

“I really enjoyed taking part in my activity.” Siddington pupil
