E4 Challenge
Single-Use Plastics Challenge
On Wednesday 21 November 2018, a small group of Year 10 pupils from Cirencester Deer Park School took part in the now annual E4 Challenge at the Royal Agricultural University (RAU), alongside their peers from Cirencester Kingshill School, with students from Cirencester College and the Royal Agricultural University acting as mentors.
This was designed as an Apprentice-style challenge with the pupils working in vertical mixed teams, with people from each institution, to create an imaginative and innovative solution to one aspect of a global problem centring around food packaging using single-use plastics. The groups all found the challenge difficult to start with but they persevered and came up with some very creative concepts.
Teams had to present their ideas to a panel of external judges from local businesses (one of whom had been working with a client on a similar project) and answer questions from the panel. Our pupils conducted themselves with enthusiasm and maturity.
“They showed excellent resilience and reflective skills to create and refine their ideas. This was a difficult task and they took on the challenge”. Miss Brace, Associate Assistant Head
“It was such a pleasure to see so many inspiring and innovative ideas being thrown around the room that resulted in some fabulous future inventions.” Mrs Burfoot, Year 10 Year Leader
“That was cool – I think our invention might actually work!” Year 10 Pupil
What is E4?
E4 is a collaborative project between the Royal Agricultural University, Cirencester College, Cirencester Kingshill School and Cirencester Deer Park School. We aim to support our young people under the themes of Enterprise, Education, Eco and Entrepreneurship. We organise and host different activities throughout the year to support enterprising young people.
The next event is the Cirencester Youth Market in partnership with Cirencester Town Council in March 2019. Read about Cirencester Youth Market (March 2018)...
