Primary Schools Tag Rugby
Hosting a Year 5/6 Tag Rugby Tournament
by Ethan, Year 9 Young Sports Leader
On Monday 5 November 2018, Cirencester Deer Park School hosted a Primary Schools Year 5/6 Tag Rugby Tournament after school on the 'Astro', our artificial playing surface. The atmosphere was buzzing throughout the event.
We had 12 teams taking part from the following primary schools - Powell’s, Stratton, Chesterton, Kemble and Sapperton - with 5 matches running simultaneously throughout the evening.
The event was organised by Deer Park PE teacher Mr Cumming, supported by his band of Year 9 Young Sports Leaders and Year 10 Games Captains. Each of the Young Sports Leaders and Games Captains were given different roles - linesmen (and -women), referees and result managers - which they handled really well. It was a great evening and even though it was cold the event was a huge success.
“The Young Leaders and Games Captains were great at making decisions and were fair.” Kemble Primary School pupil
“I have really enjoyed myself tonight.” Powell’s CofE Primary School pupil
“I scored lots of tries and it was great fun!” Pupil from Stratton CofE Primary School
Mr Cumming, PE Teacher and Primary School Sports Coordinator, commented: "The tag rugby event was superb. It was great to see 12 teams of Primary School pupils come to Deer Park to compete. Our Young Leaders were excellent and demonstrated high quality officiating and management of the event."
The next Primary Schools event at Deer Park is Year 3 and 4 Indoor Athletics on Monday 19 November, 4.00-5.30pm. Follow our PE Faculty on Twitter: @CDPSsport
