Local Governing Body

Are you interested in being part of our Local Governing Body?

Vacancies for the Local Governing Body
Informal Open Meeting Wednesday 21 November 2018

We are looking to recruit new parent members (previously known as Governors) to join the Local Governing Body of the school. This is an exciting opportunity for you to join the Local Governing Body and, together with the Head, play an important role in defining the direction of the school.

Our members of our Local Governing Body come from a range of different backgrounds, skills and experience but all share a common interest of wanting the best possible education for the children in our school.

We would be delighted to hear from anyone who:

  • Is interested in children’s education and the performance of the school;
  • Has spare time and the energy for the role;
  • Is able to work well as part of a team;
  • Has an enquiring mind and the confidence to ask questions and debate issues that affect the school;
  • Can consider matters objectively and make informed judgements.

What does a Local Governing Body do?  Since the establishment of the Corinium Education Trust on 1 April 2018, the Board of Trustees now delegate functions of school governance to the individual Local Governing Bodies of each school within the Trust.  Local Governing Bodies have the following main functions:

  • Help shape the strategic ambitions for the school;
  • Report to the Trust Board on the overall performance and educational outcomes of the school;
  • In conjunction with the CEO of the Corinium Education Trust and Headteacher of the school, they determine the annual spend of that part of the Trust budget which is delegated to be managed by the school;
  • Monitor all aspects of safeguarding, SEN, equality and student welfare.

Following a recent skills audit of the existing Local Governing Body, we have identified that we are specifically seeking people who have a background or skills and experience in one or more of the following areas: marketing/promotion/PR, project management, safeguarding, health and wellbeing or knowledge of special educational needs.

However, please do not be put off if you do not have these skills. What is more important is enthusiasm, interest and the willingness to learn and the time and energy to commit to the role. Our Local Governing Body meets a minimum of 6 times a year, generally from 6-8pm, and members of this group are expected to support events and may be asked to sit on various panels. Cirencester Deer Park School is committed to safer recruitment and safeguarding our pupils and all members of the Local Governing Body are subject to an enhanced clearance by the Disclosure and Barring Service.

If you would like to find out more about becoming a member of our Local Governing Body, we invite you to attend an informal open meeting at 6.00pm - 7.00pm on Wednesday 21 November 2018 with the Head and Chair of our Local Governing Body.  Please confirm your interest and attendance at this meeting to Allison Boucher, Head’s PA, on A.Boucher@deerparkschool.net by Monday 19 November.  Thank you.
