Enterprise Challenge
Enterprise challenge at local university.
On Wednesday 28 February 2018, two small groups of Year 10 pupils from Cirencester Deer Park and Kingshill schools took part in an E4 Challenge, with students from the Royal Agricultural University acting as mentors.
During this Apprentice-style challenge, hosted at the RAU, the young people worked in vertical teams of pupils and students from each institution to come up with a creative and imaginative response to a challenge. The task was to create a new way of charging a mobile and it was impressive to see the range of different ideas and concepts that the young people came up with, many of which were completely original.
Teams had to present their ideas to a panel of external judges from local businesses and answer questions from the panel. Our pupils conducted themselves with passion and enthusiasm. They showed excellent team work and communication skills. One participant commented, “This afternoon was fun. I enjoyed being part of a different team. I was worried about presenting, especially as it was in the lecture theatre, but it went better than I thought.”
“I was really proud of the pupils we took to the RAU. They were out of their comfort zone and they coped really well. Some were a little overwhelmed at first but they had a go and all produced a creative and imaginative idea.” Miss Brace, Assistant Head
“It was wonderful to watch pupils from all walks of life from the local education community come together and develop creative and innovative business ideas and solutions to an everyday issue.” Mrs Mackew, Year 10 Year Leader
What is E4? E4 is a collaborative project between the Royal Agricultural University, Cirencester College, Cirencester Kingshill School and Cirencester Deer Park School. We aim to support our young people under the themes of Enterprise, Education, Eco and Entrepreneurship. We organise and host different activities throughout the year to support enterprising young people. The next event is the Cirencester Youth Market in partnership with Cirencester Town Council on Wednesday 14 March 2018. |
