August 2017

In August 2017 our Class of 2017 received their GCSE Results and we were delighted to share in their joy as they opened their envelopes, congratulated and supported each other.

Many of the Class of 2017 returned to Deer Park one last time in November for our Celebration of Achievement Evening where we as a school have an opportunity to really celebrate the individuals who make up a year group. In addition to awards for academic achievements, we also recognise and celebrate effort and improvement  and recognise individual endeavour and personal contribution. The evening is a great opportunity for a reunion and many parents and former pupils spoke very fondly of their time at Deer Park.

Key Stage 4 involves a lot of work and the sooner that pupils realise this, the better - for their general wellbeing and stress levels, as well as their results! We provide support and skills to our pupils in Year 11 to help them through this stressful time, such as a Mental Health and Wellbeing Day and, this year, Laughter Yoga sessions in the run up to the exams.

The opportunity to create CVs in PSHEe lessons and participate in Mock Interviews in January with people from the local community gives our pupils invaluable experience in talking about their interests, experiences (including Year 10 Work Experience) and hopes for the future. Careers meetings with an external provider and the opportunity to attend our annual Careers Convention are another part of the way we help equip our pupils for life after Deer Park.

Pupils are encouraged to look at their Post 16 options in both Year 10 and Year 11, and to visit the local Sixth Forms and Colleges on Open Days and Evenings to see which type of establishment suits them best, as well as researching which provides the qualifications and training that they wish to pursue.

You can check @CDPStoday for photographs from Laughter Yoga sessions , the Good Egg Party and Leavers Day, amongst others.
