Wembley Dance Workshops
The Drama Studio at Deer Park played host to a range of energetic pupils from Key Stage 3 over the half term break as they spent four intense days dancing their socks off!
The dance workshops saw pupils tirelessly rehearsing choreography to three dance routines in preparation for their performance with The X Factor winner Louisa Johnson. The performance of all three routines will take place at Wembley before the Saracens v Harlequins rugby 'Derby Day' on Saturday 8 April.
Routines were taught to the pop star's hits ‘So Good’ and ‘Tears’, and also to Justin Beiber’s ‘Love Yourself’ which Louisa Johnson will cover on the match day. Peter in Year 7 was very excited about the project. ‘The week went very smoothly! I found it challenging at first, but I soon started to understand the steps! I really enjoyed myself! I can't wait for Wembley!’ The mass movement project that dance company Pro-Excel are leading will enable 1,300 pupils from across the country to take part in and perform in front of a crowd of 85,000 fans.
Preparing our pupils for this dance experience were choreographers Laura Hooper and Laura Houghton. Ella in Year 8 said ‘Laura and Laura were friendly and were very helpful, especially when people found particular bits of the routine hard. They made the week really enjoyable.’
The pupils will continue to rehearse weekly to prepare for the performance in April, with former pupils Alex Ololade and Shianne Mortimer leading rehearsals as Dance Captains. Shianne who took part in the project two years ago said ‘As a Dance Captain I helped the pupils achieve their best, and learn the dance routines within the 4 days! They all worked really hard and were always focused! I really enjoyed helping them and having the opportunity to enjoy this experience again!’
Good luck to all pupils involved and we hope the rehearsals continue to be as enthusiastic and hard working as the workshops in half term!
