GCSE History in London

(New) Year 11 GCSE History pupils travel to the Imperial War Museum, London

On Wednesday 19 June 2024 thirty Year 11 GCSE History pupils were accompanied to London by Mr Ferne, Head of Humanities, and Miss Perry, History Teacher, for a day at the Imperial War Museum!

Pupils began their day in London with the opportunity to work with Holocaust experts. Following an introductory session providing vital context, pupils were able to self-guide their way through The Holocaust Galleries. Using a tablet, pupils investigated artefacts and personal testimonies, deepening their understanding of the Holocaust. This powerful exhibit covers antisemitism and the persecution of Europe's Jews by the Nazis. A debrief followed, where the pupils asked and answered pertinent questions to enhance their understanding. Our expert guide commented on the maturity of our pupils and stated that they were one of the best groups she had ever worked with.

Our pupils then had a chance to explore other exhibits in the museum, with the First World War, Second World War and Cold War proving to be particular highlights. Our young people were mature and focused throughout, a true pleasure to work with.
