Readathons
To celebrate World Book Day we are holding two Readathons...
World Book Day and Readathons Thursday 3 March 2016 is World Book Day and, as always, we will be handing out £1 World Book Day (WBD) tokens to our Year 7s for use in local bookshops. We will also be running two Readathons during the week - on Thursday 3 March for a group of pupils in Year 7 and Year 8 and on Friday 4 March for Year 9 and Year 10. Pupils taking part in our two Readathons - spending the whole day off timetable and reading in our library, the PLC - will be raising money for Readathon to support children reading in hospital and other children’s charities. This year there is the option of sponsoring online which may prove easier than the pupils having to collect cash for the day. As a school we also receive book vouchers for 20% of the total money raised, so this is a great opportunity to read and raise funds, both for the school and those less fortunate than ourselves. Look out for more information after the events. The World Book Day TeenFest takes place online on Wednesday 2 March and Thursday 3 March, 6-8pm and combines live chats with favourite YA authors, author blogs, DIY videos, competitions and more! If you are looking for a way to inspire a love of books in your child, this could well help. Please continue to encourage your children to read, ideally for at least 20 minutes each day. We will be promoting our Readathons through our I am reading… poster campaign around school where staff will be putting a sign on their doors or desks, sharing with others what they are currently reading.
