Football Coaching
Enrichment Week 2023: Five days of football
Thirty-five (new) Year 9 and (new) Year 10 pupils took part in action-packed Football Coaching activities during Enrichment Week 2023.
On Wednesday, Deer Park staff ran a competitive skills session involving penalties, free kicks and a crossbar challenge, followed by tournament football. We then had a break from football with an afternoon at Cirencester Open Air Pool.
On Thursday we travelled up to Manchester City to be trained by their world-class coaches and use their state-of-the-art facilities. The energy of the club's coaching and philosophy of passing and moving quickly was second to none. This inspired our pupils to perform incredibly well throughout each session. They also used their high levels of ability and advanced skills against 'Stockport Vikings': Year 9s won both their games 2-0 and 3-0; unfortunately, the Year 10s lost 5-4 in a pulsating game. Following Thursday's training, fixture and ten pin bowling, the group had more training and a stadium tour on Friday before travelling back to Cirencester. What an experience!
Overall, our keen footballers performed with excellence throughout the week and showed exceptional standards of football. We handed out the following awards for the week:
- Manager/Staff Players: Noah G, Harry D and Lilly H
- Players' Players: Reilly S, Rowan R and Max B
- Most Improved Players: Jack J, Luke R and Sigen G
- Best Attitude: Lucy C, Lewis J and Phoenix E.
Pupils comments include:
"It has been an unbelievable experience being coached by Man City." Lily
"The training was world-class and I really enjoyed how professional everything was." Lewis
"The Swindon Town coaching was a really fun way to start the week." Lucy
"The stadium was phenomenal and being a Man City fan I felt right at home." Woody
Finally, I would like to thank all the pupils for their efforts throughout the week and the staff - Mr Cumming, Miss Towler and Mrs Tingle - for all their help.
