GCSE PE Trip

Year 10 GCSE PE pupils travel to University of Bath

On Tuesday 18 April 2023 we took 49 Year 10 GCSE PE pupils to the University of Bath Sports Training Village to support their academic learning and find out about future higher education opportunities.

The morning consisted of fitness testing at the indoor sports tracks. Pupils completed the following tests: 30m Sprint, Illinois Agility Run, Vertical Jump, Sit and Reach, and Handgrip Dynamometer. Pupils also had a tour of the impressive world-class facilities, including the athletics tracks, Olympic swimming pool, gymnasiums and tennis courts.

In the afternoon, pupils had a fantastic opportunity to take part in a Q&A Session with professional athlete Phoebe Hayden, U23 British rower and final year student at the University. Phoebe explained her ambitions for her sport, as well as outlining her weekly training schedule and diet. This was a fascinating insight for our pupils who asked many additional questions related to her daily routine.

The day finished with a lecture from Jonathan Robinson, Applied Sport Scientist at the University. Jonathan explained how the University of Bath works for sports students, outlined his role and talked about theory related to GCSE PE.
