On Wednesday 1 and Friday 3 March 2023, pupils took part in our annual Readathons to raise funds for the Nailsworth-based charity Read for Good, who provide books and story tellers for children in hospitals across the country.

"I found it really fun, as I loved having the chance to fully immerse myself in a story while also raising money for charity. I think this is a great way to motivate kids to read and to raise money for charity." Innes (Year 10)

Year 7 were introduced to the concept with 2 hours of midweek reading on the Wednesday, whilst pupils in Year 8 and Year 10 spent the whole day (apart from break and lunchtime) immersed in their books and were joined by Year 9 after their Science assessment. We love to see the variety of books our pupils read.

Our Librarians Mrs Bond and Mrs Burton were on hand, providing support plus hot chocolate and biscuits, which were very well received! Thank you to everyone who took part; sponsorship money should be brought in to Mrs Bond or Mrs Burton by Friday 17 March.

We encourage everyone, no matter how old you are, to read for at least 20 minutes each day.

"It was nice to sit in a quiet room and read, without any of the noise around. It was also a nice relaxing activity after an exam."

World Book Day takes place on the first Thursday in March and we organise our Readathons to coincide with this event. We shared World Book Day digital book tokens with pupils in Years 7, 8 & 9 via ShowMyHomework. Pupils can show the digital book token on their phone at the checkout of certain retailers (check list of participating retailers) to exchange the book token for a free World Book Day £1 book, or to get £1 off a full price book or audiobook costing £2.99 or more. The digital book tokens cannot be redeemed online. The tokens are valid until Sunday 26 March.

Mr Clutterbuck, Headteacher, commented: 'As the headteacher of a research-informed school, it's always useful to find out how others do things!'
