Upcoming Industrial Strike Action
Industrial strike action in March 2023
The next day of industrial strike action planned by the National Education Union (NEU) is Thursday 2 March 2023, followed by two consecutive days on Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 March 2023.
Once again we have carefully considered the impact that this will have on the number of staff available to enable us to safely open the school and provide appropriate levels of supervision through the day. Following our assessment of the situation, we confirm:
Thursday 2 March 2023:
Open to Year 11, closed to Years 7 to 10
Based on the arrangements and impact of the industrial action on Deer Park on 1 February, we will be closing the school on Thursday 2 March to pupils in Years 7 to 10 and keeping the school open to Year 11 only. This is due to the proximity of the GCSE exams, hence the need to prioritise this year group.
- Year 11 pupils will use the Main Hall as their base and will need to bring in revision materials. Where they have timetabled lessons and staff are in, they will be taught in those lessons. However, if the member of staff is not in school, pupils will work/revise independently in one of our computer suites or the PLC and be supervised by a member of the SLT.
- Work for pupils in Year 7 to 10 will be available on SMHW for the pupils to complete at home.
Wednesday 15 March and Thursday 16 March 2023:
Open to Year 10 and YEAr 11, closed to Years 7 to 9
In a change from the arrangements for 1 February and 2 March, school will be open to Year 11 and Year 10 pupils only on Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 March.
- Year 11 pupils will use the Main Hall as their base and will need to bring in revision materials. In order to minimise the impact of the second round of mock exams on timetabled curriculum time, we have rescheduled some of the mock exams (see Exams for the timetable). Year 11s will sit two mock exams on each day:
- Wednesday 15 March, English Literature (morning) and Biology (afternoon)
- Thursday 16 March, Chemistry (morning) and Maths (afternoon)Where Year 11 pupils have timetabled lessons and their staff are in and they are not in a mock exam, they will be taught in those lessons. However, if the member of staff is not in school, pupils will work/revise independently in one of our computer suites or the PLC and be supervised by a member of the SLT.
-
Year 10 pupils will use the Main Hall as their base and will need to bring in revision materials. Where Year 10 have timetabled lessons and staff are in, they will be taught in those lessons. However, if the member of staff is not in school, pupils will work/revise independently in one of our computer suites or the PLC and be supervised by a member of the SLT.
- Work for pupils in Year 7 to 10 will be available on SMHW for the pupils to complete at home.
If for any reason industrial action does not take place on any of the March 2023 dates, then school will be open as usual for all pupils.
