District Girls' Football Winners
U14 Girls' Football District Winners
On Wednesday 15 February 2023 our U14 Girls' Football team won the District tournament hosted by Rednock School. They played fantastically throughout and their win means they progress to the County Final tournament at Cirencester Town FC in March.
The girls won their first two games 1-0, meaning they were top of the group going into their final group game, which they drew 0-0, finishing 2nd in their group on goal difference. The semi-final against Rednock 1s was a nail-biting game which ended 1-1; the game was decided on penalties, with Deer Park saving two of Rednock's shots, putting them through to the final vs KLB.
In the final, KLB scored a tidy goal from a corner driven low and hard into the box but Deer Park bounced back with an excellent goal to equalise. It was a tense game, with neither team able to find a deciding goal, and went to penalties, with Deer Park scoring four great shots giving them the winning title.
Miss Blacker, PE Teacher, commented: "The girls were amazing and a true credit to the school. I was quite hopeful going into the tournament after a strong win in a friendly last week which gave the girls some confidence. They played some great football and are really excited to be going to the county finals next month and I can't wait to see what else they can achieve. I'm really proud of them. We've had nearly 50 girls attend football club this term and it's brilliant to see an increase in demand for girls' football."
Lily (captain) in Year 9 said "I am really happy with the result from Wednesday. I couldn't be prouder. We battled as a team all the way through until the last minute. It felt amazing to score the winning penalty in the final but that wouldn't have been possible without the whole team's incredible performance. I'm looking forward to the next tournament and I hope we can do just as well as the last one!"
