Year 11 Mock Interviews 2023
Year 11 pupils expanding their life skills
On Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 January 2023, our Year 11 pupils had the opportunity to rehearse important life skills as they each attended a Mock Interview. Although they had prepared for the interviews beforehand, for many it was their first experience of having a structured discussion of this sort and it will stand them in good stead for real interviews they are likely to have in the next months, for example for a sixth form place or a part-time job.
The opportunity to come to school wearing an outfit for the day suitable for an office environment gave many a confidence boost ahead of their interview. Pupils used the CVs that they had worked on in their PSHEe lessons to support their interview and were able to discuss their Mock GCSE results and their ambitions and interests.
First impressions count and you only get one chance to make a first impression. Standing tall, smiling, making eye contact and using a firm handshake are all positive forms of non-verbal communication and staff reminded pupils of these tips as they waited to meet their interviewer.
The relief on our young peoples' faces and in their body language was evident as they came out from the PLC where interviews were held. Pupils viewed it as a positive experience and have learnt more about themselves and picked up useful tips.
'I enjoyed the opportunity to dress up and present myself formally. One tip I received was that I was rushing and talking too fast. I will bear that in mind in future.'
'My interview went very well. The conversation flowed and I felt confident as we were able to talk about the future and what I am trying to do. He helped me improve my CV and talked about my options for the future and the best way to get to where I want to be.'
'My Mock Interview was a very useful experience which helped me gain a feel of what an interview situation could be like. My interviewer helped me understand how to respond to interview questions.'
The two days were expertly planned and organised by Mrs Walford in our Administration Office and coordinated on the day by Miss Brace, Assistant Head.
This event only runs with the support from members of the wider community and we are very grateful to our team of volunteer interviewers who gave up their time to support us and share their expertise with the pupils, including Cirencester College, Cirencester and Nailworth Rotary Clubs, parents, members of our local governing body, members of the Corinium Education Trust leadership team and others.

Many had very impressive CVs. Those I met plan to pursue career paths in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths, uniformed services, nursing, social care and sports leadership or physiotherapy.
