Heatwave Alert
Water bottles and sun cream
From Monday 11 July 2022 temperatures are forecasted to soar (see Met Office). As stated previously, if temperatures are forecast by the Met Office to exceed 24 degrees, we will make an exception and advise pupils that they can wear their school PE shorts or skorts in place of their usual school uniform trousers or skirts. Pupils should not decide to do this without our instruction.
Owing to the extremely hot weather forecast from Monday 11 to Friday 15 July 2022, we ask that parents/carers ensure that their children come to school with sun cream and a water bottle. We do NOT supply sun cream. Please encourage your young people to stay hydrated – they can refill their bottles from the water stations around the school site. Every cell in your body needs water, including those in your brain and your muscles, so to keep mind and body functioning well, you need to avoid becoming even slightly dehydrated. A headache during a heatwave is often a sign of dehydration, so everyone needs to be drinking much more water. There are plenty of shady spaces around the site for break and lunchtimes.
In order to avoid the heat in the middle of the day, our whole school Sports Day will be taking place in the morning of Wednesday 13 July and, on this day only, pupils will be permitted to wear full School PE kit all day.
We confirm that during the week Monday 11 to Friday 15 July 2022 pupils will be allowed to wear their school uniform PE shorts or skorts to school instead of black trousers/skirts, should they wish to do so. Pupils should not be in any shorts/skirts other than their usual school uniform or PE shorts/skorts. Pupils should continue to wear their school shirts and school shoes as normal.
We will review these arrangements weekly and advise pupils and parents accordingly.
