Year 10 PE Trip
GCSE PE trip for Year 10
On Tuesday 26 April 2022, 60 Year 10 GCSE PE pupils visited the Sports Training Village at the University of Bath for the day to support their academic learning and find out about Further Education opportunities at the University.
Pupils took part in fitness testing at the indoor sports tracks, completing the following tests: 30m sprint, Illinois agility run, vertical jump test, the sit and reach test and the handgrip dynamometer test. Pupils also had a tour of the impressive world-class facilities at Bath, including the athletics tracks, Olympic-size swimming pool, gymnasiums and tennis courts.
In the afternoon, our pupils had a fantastic opportunity to take part in a Q&A with a professional athlete: U23 British rower Becky Wilde. Becky explained her ambitions for her sport, combined with her weekly training schedule and diet. This was a fascinating insight for our pupils, who asked many additional questions related to her daily routine.
The day finished with a lecture from Jonathan Robinson who is a Sport Scientist at the University. Jonathan explained how the University of Bath works for sports students, his role at the university and theory related to GCSE PE.
It was great experience and it was really good to be able to expand our knowledge on sports science and different sports. (Reuben)
I really enjoyed the lecture because it was really interesting. I am a swimmer and the lecture had a focus on this. (Grace)
I had a great time. We did so much and my favourite part was the fitness testing because I enjoyed the hands-on learning. (Kay)
