Year 11 PE Trip
Year 11 GCSE PE pupils' trip to University of Bath
On Thursday 10 March 2022 we took 39 of our Year 11 GCSE PE pupils to the University of Bath for a day of sports science in action.
Pupils were split into two groups, headed by Mrs Hacker and Mr Bellamy. Incorporating both theory and practice, the day included doing a variety of fitness tests using the most up-to-date technology based in the university's outstanding facilities.
Pupils had a tour of the University which gave them an insight into life on campus and the range of activities and experiences available if they went to university.
There was an inspirational talk from a U23 GB rower based at the University. Pupils heard of the pathway that she had followed and were given an insight into the amount of training she has to undergo, the diet she has to follow to support her training, and all about overuse injuries and their treatment.
Our Year 11s attended a lecture on Components of Fitness with an opportunity to ask questions, not only about fitness but also about university life.
Mrs Hacker, Head of PE commented 'It was a really full day but gave our young people a great insight into the practical application of the GCSE PE course and also life at University.'
'I really enjoyed listening to the talk by the Olympic rower. She really gave a clear insight into what you need to do to be an elite athlete and how training and university can fit together.' Olivia
'I found the inspirational talk really good but also thought it was great to be able to use all the best equipment for the fitness testing.' Jack
