An organisation is ultimately defined by its culture rather than its strategy. No matter how innovative or well-planned a strategy may be, it will not succeed without the right culture to support it. When a positive culture is deeply embedded, it becomes second nature—shaping behaviours, routines, and interactions in an organic way.
Building and maintaining a strong culture is challenging but essential. To do so, it must be broken down into clear expectations and behaviours that are intentionally modelled and reinforced.
At Deer Park, we are committed to fostering a culture where every member of our school community feels safe, happy, and able to succeed. While many aspects of our culture are well established, we recognize the need for continuous reinforcement. Our expectations around behaviour play a key role in this, ensuring that all pupils, whether new or returning, understand what it means to be part of a positive and supportive environment.
The ‘How We Talk’ poster below reflects our pupils’ voices, along with the collaborative efforts of our staff, to define the ways we should – and should not – communicate with one another.

We believe this guidance is essential in upholding the values of our school community, and we encourage everyone to embrace it as part of our commitment to being the best we can be every day.
