Discovering new pathways, imagining possibilities

Last week, fifty enthusiastic Year 9 and 10 students, accompanied by Ms Messinger, Mrs Davies and Mr Wotherspoon, spent an inspiring day at the University of Gloucestershire’s Oxstalls Campus attending an ‘Aspiration Day’.

Mrs Davies said:

“The visit gave students a valuable opportunity to explore higher education, discover new pathways, and imagine the possibilities that lie ahead. Activities included taking part in a ‘Myth Busting Quiz’, where we learned that over 50 thousand courses are available at universities in the UK!

A highlight for many was the chance to tour the Oxstalls facilities, including the laboratories and modern learning environments. The campus even has a hospital ward, a courtroom and some flats for use during simulations. Students particularly enjoyed seeing inside the Sports Studies facilities, complete with professional‑grade training equipment, and the performance analysis rooms used to study technique and improve athletic performance. These facilities gave students a real insight into how science and sport come together at university level and sparked plenty of curiosity about future study pathways.

Staff accompanying the trip were impressed by the maturity, engagement, and enthusiasm shown by all students. Their thoughtful questions and willingness to try new experiences made the day both productive and enjoyable.

University visit days aim to broaden horizons and help students make informed choices about their futures. This visit certainly achieved that, leaving many students feeling motivated and excited about the next steps in their educational journey.

We are proud of how well our Year 9 and 10 students represented the school and look forward to offering more opportunities like this in the future”.
