The Thursday Gardening Club, under the guidance of Mrs Elwell have been experiencing the spoils of their labour by harvesting potatoes and green tomatoes. The squashes are enjoying a little more time in the soil to fully mature. The green tomatoes will be made into delicious Deer Park chutney.
Mrs Howe visited the club this week and commented:
“The way that this group of young people are shaping the horticultural landscape in this part of the school is wonderful to see”.
We are so pleased that this part of the school has been transformed into a well-organised and well-equipped, operational horticulture area. The Gardening Club are learning first-hand about food production, healthy lifestyles and sustainability. They’re also learning about responsibility and teamwork, while reaping the wellbeing benefits of spending time outside.
You can see and hear their sense of pride and excitement when they dig up potatoes which they have grown themselves!
