We are immensely proud to celebrate four of our students who were given the fantastic opportunity to take part in this year’s prestigious Royal Institution Masterclasses in Computer Science, supported by Morgan Stanley and the University of Oxford’s Department of Computer Science.
This year, our Year 11 students, Evie and Tom, were joined by two of our newly appointed Year 10 students, Evie and George, in what proved to be an inspiring and rewarding experience.
Over the course of three months, our students dedicated their Saturday mornings to attending a series of engaging and thought-provoking workshops alongside like-minded young people from schools across the region. We would also like to recognise the invaluable support of their parents and carers, who generously gave up their own time to make the journeys to and from Oxford possible each week. Their encouragement and commitment played a significant role in enabling our students to benefit from this fantastic opportunity.
The masterclasses provided a unique and inspiring opportunity to explore a wide range of fascinating areas within Computer Science, including:
The History of Computer Science
Programming using Graphics
Logic and Problem Solving
Programming Robots
The Enigma Machine
Our students demonstrated outstanding commitment, curiosity, and enthusiasm throughout the programme, embracing every challenge and opportunity presented to them. Their successful completion of the course is a wonderful achievement and reflects both their dedication and passion for the subject.
We are especially proud that all four students have chosen to continue their Computing journey through GCSE Computer Science and beyond. Their enthusiasm for learning and willingness to engage with opportunities outside the classroom are a credit to themselves and our school community.
Adding to this success, we are thrilled to share that our students have been invited to return next year to take part in a new series of masterclasses. These sessions will build on this year’s learning and introduce more advanced topics.
