Carol Service
Members of the Cirencester Deer Park School community were invited to our annual Christmas Carol Service in the stunning setting of the Parish Church of St John the Baptist, in Cirencester Market Place, on Tuesday 12 December 2017.
The icy conditions could not keep our young singers and musicians away, and everyone who attended the Carol Service got into the Christmas spirit, ready for the holidays.
With the introduction of a theme this year, ‘That’s Christmas to Me’, we heard speeches from a range of pupils and parents explaining what Christmas means to them and their family, to their Church, to our school and all around the world.
Jaden in Year 8 said "I was privileged to open the Carol Service this year, singing ‘That’s Christmas to Me’. It was a really nice song that we started with and I really enjoyed being part of so many ensembles, from Guitar Group to the Legally Blonde Jr band."
The congregation saw performances from the DP Players, Guitar Ensemble, Flute Ensemble and Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 Choirs. Pupils also performed speeches. Olivia in Year 8 spoke with her older sister and her mother Sarah about their family traditions and commented "I enjoyed the Carol Service. It was different to perform a speech with my mum and sister but it was good. I’m really looking forward to Christmas."
Chair of Governors, Graham Russell said he really enjoyed the traditional Ghanaian song and that it was like being transported to Ghana. "Really enjoyable event. Some great talent and enthusiasm. Well done to you and your colleagues for putting it together despite the weather."
Peripatetic teacher Sandra Dukes said "This year’s Christmas service was dynamic and slick, it was light hearted and got the message across. It was lovely."
The now traditional Year 7 song was ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ by Shakin’ Stevens, performed by lots of very enthusiastic pupils. Jack said "It was really good fun to perform with the other Year 7s. It was the best experience of my life at Deer Park so far and I hope to do it again!"
There was a retiring collection for Rainbow Trust, a children’s charity based in Bristol. They provide bespoke support for families who have a child with a serious illness. They offer the whole family support, regardless of diagnosis and are there for as long as a family needs them.
