ROTARY Public Speaking
Public speaking event
On Wednesday July 5, 2023, two talented finalists from Cirencester Deer Park School showcased their speaking prowess at the Royal Agricultural University, courtesy of the Rotary Club of Cirencester's Schools' Public Speaking Showcase. With unique topics, a wealth of ideas, and impressive rhetorical skills, our pupils were well-prepared for the event.
Over the previous few weeks, several Deer Park pupils had dedicated their time to crafting, refining and rehearsing their speeches. The quality of all presentations was exceptionally high, providing a captivating display of rhetorical skill. After a careful selection process, Molly, in (new) Year 9, tackled the subject of 'Gender Equality in School Sport', while Daniel, in (new) Year 11, delivered a passionate plea about 'The Benefits of Swimming.'
Both speeches exuded passion, eloquence and emotion. The Deer Park pupils represented the school with remarkable poise. The Cirencester Rotary Club judging panel faced a challenging decision, acknowledging the exceptional standards, the speakers' enthusiasm for their topics, and the wide range of important topics covered. While the overall winner did not hail from Deer Park, all our finalists were given certificates and gift vouchers in recognition of their participation. It was a splendid evening, and our pupils were grateful for the support they received from the Cirencester Rotarians, while also extending their own support in return.
'What a lovely evening - our two participants did very well indeed.' Mr Lay
‘It was a very interesting experience and I’m glad I had the opportunity.’ Molly
